Off Days... And our Malkorok Strat.
Hello All! I wanted to talk about a little experience our raid group had last night. Every group has "Off-Nights" where everyone or a vast majority of everyone is doing one thing wrong or another. When this happens it is really easy for a raid groups jovial demeanor to turn sour very rapidly.
Last night our group was fighting Malkorok. Our typical strat is for all the RDPS and heals to spread evenly for pools and we assign 1 melee to take the pools closest to the melee. On Blood Rage Phases we have 1 tank (Blood DK) in front of the boss and the rest of the raid behind the boss as to avoid damage. We typically 2 heal this fight but in this instance we had 3 heals. Sounds good right? Well it really is a great strat if everything is executed right and this is how we usually clear this kill every week. However, last night was one of our "OFF-DAYS" I reluctantly admit that we wiped 9 times on a boss we kill over and over every week. /facepalm We had so many derps..
What problems did we encounter you might ask.... Well last night we had EVERY ONE OF THEM. LoL Melee would miss a puddle. The person responsible for marking the ground would get "WONKY-CAMERA" and place a marker in the air resulting in somebody standing in breath. To get through the Blood Rage Phase on this strat, the tank has to time his cooldowns exactly right. There were a couple of times that this did not happen... WIPE. One healer (new to the fight) did not know why her heals were not working and did not realize she was healing a shield thus resulting in her not focusing on whats under her feet. WTB GTFO! ERMERGERD. And the Typical, people standing in the Arcing Smash thingy. Well if this happens to your group just take it with stride. Stay Calm. You will get through it. Sometimes Raid groups just had bad days and you simply chalk it up to that. Its does not mean your all idiots or anything. Its just a bad day. We all have them. It's the nature of the beast.
So here is our raid make up:
Tanks: 2 Blood DK's (Having two Blood DK's really makes it easy to 2 heal most fights as they do a tremendous amount of healing themselves.)
Heals: Disc Priest, Resto Shaman (Main Healers) We have a Ret Pally that can swing Holy if need be and we have a Holy Priest that can step in from time to time. Mistweaver Monk (swing player) But we mainly use a Disc Priest and Shaman.
Damage: Fury Warrior, Frost DK(swing player), Retribution Pally (swing player), Hunter, Elemental Shaman, Warlock
Our typical night will be: 2 Blood DK, Disc Priest, Resto Shaman, Ret Pally, Fury Warrior, Ele Shammy, Hunter, and Lock and Frost DK
EASY MODE REG STRAT:
Heals and Range DPS spread out evenly around the boss to cover outer pools. Assign a melee for inner pool.
Have the tank that will tank all of the Damage for blood rage phase pull first. This is essential. Tanks taunt at 25 stacks.
Hero or Blood Lust on Pull.
Blood Rage Phase: 1 Tank in front of the boss. Raid behind the boss. People with debuff must run out of the group and "CALL" for dispel so you may quickly get back with the group. Healers save big CD's for this phase and stagger them accordingly.
With this make up or similar you should only have 1 blood rage phase and then its GG!
Introductions...
Hi and welcome to the blog for the casual raider. My name is Mark and I play a Hunter called "Georgeforman". I am a member of the guild ASHES OF SILVERGREEN on the realm Suramar. We are not anything fancy like your top #1 Raiding guild or even anything remotely close. We are a group of people spanning the ages from 17 - 50+. Like many other guilds out there we are comprised of people that actually have real jobs during the day but want to escape reality at night so we venture in to Azeroth. We like to have fun when we go to Raid and the only times we get "REALLY SERIOUS" is when people are derping and we have multiple wipes. Other than that vent during raid sounds like us Killing bosses, making fun of each other, laughing, joking around and basically having a good time. Sometimes we don't get as far as we would like but we had a fun time doing what we do. Does this sound familiar?
The picture below is a great example of what our raids are like. Our Main Tank Crenius came in as a big dinosaur blocking everyone camera view making it difficult to see. This would give everyone in the raid a bad case of "WONKY-CAMERA" a term coined by our Ele Shaman, Felei. It was difficult but extremely funny.
So... what can you expect out of this blog? Well, i am going to be talking about some of the things that go on as a casual raider, strategies, whats real and whats not. As a Casual Raid we tend to go and watch the latest videos and what-not to see how everyone is doing the latest boss. However, after many years of raiding I have found that for a guild who has problems with "Raid-Awareness" like our raiders have most of these strategies are beyond the grasp of reality. So we have come up with many creative things to do that really work for our group and I will be sharing them with you. So sit back relax and be patient. I will try to post something everyday and I hope you enjoy this blog.
